  1. PTCA (Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty):
    • PTCA is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat coronary artery disease (CAD), which occurs when the blood vessels supplying the heart become narrowed or blocked due to the buildup of plaque.
    • During PTCA, a thin catheter with a deflated balloon at its tip is inserted into the blocked or narrowed coronary artery.
    • Once the catheter reaches the site of the blockage, the balloon is inflated, compressing the plaque against the walls of the artery and widening the vessel to restore blood flow to the heart muscle.
    • In some cases, a stent (a small mesh tube) may be inserted into the artery during PTCA to help keep it open and prevent re-narrowing (restenosis) of the vessel.
    • PTCA is often performed as part of a procedure called percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and may be used to relieve symptoms of angina (chest pain) and improve blood flow to the heart.
  2. PTMC (Percutaneous Transluminal Mitral Commissurotomy):
    • PTMC is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat mitral stenosis, a condition in which the mitral valve becomes narrowed or stiffened, impairing blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle of the heart.
    • During PTMC, a special catheter with a balloon at its tip is inserted into the narrowed mitral valve through a vein in the groin or arm.
    • Once the catheter reaches the site of the narrowed valve, the balloon is inflated, separating the fused or thickened leaflets of the mitral valve and widening the opening to improve blood flow.
    • PTMC is often recommended for patients with symptomatic mitral stenosis who are not candidates for surgical mitral valve replacement or repair.
    • PTMC can help relieve symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations, and improve overall heart function in patients with mitral stenosis.
